Carmen Lewis, MD, MPH
Carmen Lewis is an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology. She performs research, provides direct patient care, and teaches residents and students in the outpatient setting. Dr Lewis' research interests are in the areas of medical decision making and risk communication. She is interested in improving informed decision making for clinical decisions in primary care. Dr Lewis' work is concentrated primarily in cancer screening. She is currently funded by the National Cancer Institute through a career development award aimed to improve the decision making process for colon cancer screening in adults age 75 and older. She is also a member of the Primary Care Initiative supported by the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making. This Initiative is developing processes to implement decision aids into primary care practices.
