Carole Decker, RN, PhD

Carole Decker, RN, PhD is a nurse researcher and outcomes manager at the Mid-America Heart Institute in Kansas City, Missouri associated with Saint Luke's Hospital. Dr. Decker is adjunct research faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, School of Nursing. Currently Dr. Decker serves as principal investigator for several funded projects exploring patient decision making regarding medication discontinuance and risk factor management. In addition, she is project manager for an NIH-sponsored national registry evaluating outcomes after myocardial infarction. Dr. Decker's recent past experience as director of quality resources for a health system positioned her to initiate research utilization projects within the Heart Institute and be actively involved with staff level nursing research. She has presented and published on various quality improvement topics, research-based nursing practice, cardiovascular health status outcomes, and qualitative research. She serves on the national American Heart Association Membership, Marketing Communications Committee, and a member of the cardiovascular nursing council of the AHA. Dr. Decker received her bachelors of nursing degree from Central Missouri State University, her masters of science in nursing from Northwestern State University in Louisiana, and her PhD in nursing with a minor in outcomes from the University of Kansas.
